“Vulnerability allows us to be both soft and strong” - Jacquie Compton
The Grounded Heart
Grounded
connected to the ground
steady
calm and present in love
listening, open
feeling the earth supporting my body
Heart
An organ that pumps blood
rhythm, beating, soul
love, the centre
the holder of love, compassion, pain and truth
ancient wisdom, knowing
here
-Jacquie Compton
Welcome
During these uncertain times in our world, there is a greater need for cultivating connection and compassion, and this starts within us. Our hearts hold space through so much in this life. There will come a time when our hearts may need a guide. Healing our hearts does not happen in isolation, but instead, occurs in relation to another. It would be an honour to support you on your journey from a grounded, steady footed place-from a place of kindness, openness, acknowledgement and care. Together, space will be created where cultivation of, and reconnection to your wisdom, compassion and knowing will support the nourishment of spaciousness and strength.
Jacquie is an art and body-based trauma therapist and offers individual and group psychotherapy. Over the past 15 years, she has been developing a practice that uniquely incorporates art-based, body-based and talk-based therapy to heal trauma and dis-ease. These approaches weave and allow space for play, creativity, freedom, experiential learning, growth, and reconnection to the body and heart's wisdom. Her practice is deeply rooted in art and creative psychotherapy, somatic therapies and neuroscience. She is informed by sensorimotor psychotherapy, narrative therapy, mindfulness-based techniques, psycho-dynamic and relational therapeutic approaches. She is a Registered Psychotherapist, RP and a Registered Art Therapist, RCAT, a Certified Advanced Practitioner in Sensorimotor Psychotherapy.
She works from an anti-oppressive, anti-racist, feminist, trauma-informed approach. Jacquie specializes in the healing of trauma and how it shows up in one's life. She specializes in attachment, developmental wounds, intergenerational trauma, relational trauma, childhood trauma, gender-based violence and abuse, disassociation, post-traumatic stress, complex trauma, grief and loss, anxiety, depression, addictions, as well as the daily life stressors that show up in our lives.
Jacquie helps her clients develop their abilities to experience being more present in the moment and present in the body. By exploring, reconnecting and creating resources, one can have a sense of a calm, groundedness and balance to regulate the nervous system. She helps people reconnect to their unique wisdom and strengths and develop a more profound understanding of self, that incorporates a feeling of acceptance and love. Jacquie supports people in finding new ways to build a relationship with themselves and others that brings meaning, nourishment and movement towards transformation and growth. Clients learn how to hold with compassion all emotions and relearn how to feel and enjoy a sense of play, happiness, strength and contentment.
Healing is a journey that is full of deep love towards the self and takes courage. Courage is the first step in allowing our love towards self back into our lives and towards living with a grounded heart.
I want to take the time to reflect with deep respect, that I have the honour to work on the traditional, unceded land and territory of many nations, including the Mississaugas of the Credit, the Anishnabeg, the Chippewa, the Haudenosaunee and the Wendat peoples and the many indigenous peoples of turtle island. I acknowledge the Dish with One Spoon Territory, and the Between the Lakes Purchase( Treaty 3). I am grateful to have the honour to work on this land. All of Canada resides on traditional, unceded and/or treaty lands of First Nations, Inuit and Métis peoples. I continue to work from a place that acknowledges the deep sufferings of colonization present today and continue to deepen my knowledge and relationship with the land.
The body is poetry
it unfurls into a body of truth..
